Norman Van Johnson graduated from Atlanta Technical College in 1985 with a degree in Residential Heating, Refrigeration and Ventilation. Immediately after graduating he began his career in apartment maintenance. After only two years he was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor over a staff of six maintenance techs.In 1987, Johnson earned his Georgia HVAC/R Contractor's License.
In the early 1990's, Johnson began subcontracting for a heating and air conditioning company where he began to learn the in's and out's of the HVAC/R industry. While working as a licensed contractor, he was afforded the opportunity to become an HVAC Instructor at Interactive Learning Systems.
In 1994 Norman Van Johnson's career came full circle as he was offered a position for adjunct faculty at Atlanta Technical College. In only one year he was moved up to full time faculty in the Skilled Trades division where he taught several HVAC/R classes. Johnson quickly became one of Atlanta Technical College's top instructors. He began to work with the department chair and other instructors to build the school's technical program and expand their curriculum into their first evening program.
Norman was named Chairperson of the Skilled Trades Department at Atlanta Technical College where he was responsible for curriculum development, staff development and training and the department's budget. During this time, Johnson was nominated Teacher of the Year.
Johnson's passion for technical education and teaching motivated him to start his own company that would mesh his two areas of expertise: technical training and HVAC/R contracting. Johnson founded Associated Air Group which assists technicians to become licensed in Georgia upon completion of their technical training. AAG also provides training and support, field experience, continuing education, career development and job placement assistance. Associated Air Group's training is accredited through the ESCO institute HVAC Excellence.
